How often to water Mandevilla

Spring–Summer (Mar–Sep)

Every 2 days

In the growing season water thoroughly once the topsoil dries, as a guide, checking pots morning and evening in midsummer and going lighter in early spring.

Autumn (Oct–Nov)

Every 4 days

As it cools, water less, generally a day or two after the surface dries.

Winter (Dec–Feb)

Every 10 days

Indoors it goes semi-dormant, so a light watering about a week after the soil dries is the guide.

Light and placement for Mandevilla

From spring to fall give it a sunny spot outdoors, as a guide, since low light means fewer flowers; it takes heat well and keeps blooming in full sun through midsummer.

Overwintering Mandevilla

Overwintering guide: 5°C (41°F) or above

Cold-tender: when nights fall below about 10°C, cut the vines back to a third and move it to a bright window; above 5°C it regrows in spring even after dropping leaves.
